Chicago Turkey Drive
Last year I had reported on my States of Islam diary about AMAL’s annual turkey drive for families of the Emmett Louis Till Math and Science Academy community. You can read about it here and here but shame on me you can’t find it here.
From American Muslims for Activism and Learning (AMAL):
Another Ramadan has come and gone. We celebrated with our children, family and friends while we offered special du’as for those who are suffering around the world. And during this blessed month, we didn’t forget our suffering brothers and sisters in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Lebanon, Sudan and elsewhere.
While we remember those in need around the world, we should also remember those in need around the block. We as American Muslims are all very fortunate; however, there are many around us who are have not been as blessed.
For seven years, the Chicago Muslim community has come together so that children in need at Emmett Till Academy, who might otherwise do without, can have turkey for Thanksgiving. It is a small expression of the Muslim community, but one that has been greatly appreciated and talked about, and alhamdu Lillah it has grown year by year.
This year AMAL has teamed up with other local organizations such as CAIR Chicago, Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (which I will at some point write more about) and IMAN, to name a few, in order to provide more turkeys. Last year AMAL was responsible for donating nearly 300 turkeys. This year’s goal is 500 turkeys.
So – all of you Chicago locals – donations can be sent to:
PO Box 2187
Chicago, IL 60690-2187
Make sure to write Turkey in the memo of your check or you may wish to donate online via Sabeel Food Pantry.
